A question to sit with

What if your drive, your follow-through, even what flows toward you, starts deeper than mindset — in the state of your nervous system?

The Framework

Beyond wellness.
Into the body.

You don’t reason with a nervous system. You retrain it. That is the work.

Neuro-Somatic Play is a living framework built across four integrated layers: biology, neurology, identity, and essence. Where much therapeutic work meets the nervous system, this work builds it — laying down the scaffolding of the nervous system and, through essence, the architecture that bonds a person back to life.

It was designed by Chad Beckett — drawing on decades as a physical and vocal therapist, somatic practitioner and sound healer, with roots in acting, voice, theatre, rhythm, percussion, taiko drumming and Human Design — and co-created with Kyra Roberton, an integrative naturopath and clinical nutritionist whose grounding in psychoneuroimmunology gives it clinical rigour. Together they work with the body’s own systems — neurotransmitter function, breath, fascia, movement, sound and relational co-regulation — to create lasting shifts that talk alone cannot reach.

People arrive through many doors — cancer and survivorship, chronic illness, burnout, the depletion that doesn’t respond to rest — and so do the practitioners, doctors and retreat hosts who carry it to others. Beneath every door, the same thing holds true: a nervous system is never forced, only invited. It doesn’t yield to effort — it answers to desire: the turning of a guarded body back toward the light, through awareness, rest and play.

Chad Beckett

The Designer

Chad Beckett

Nervous System Coach · Sound Healer · Designer, Neuro-Somatic Play

Chad Beckett is the designer of Neuro-Somatic Play — a physical and vocal therapist, somatic practitioner, and sound healer whose work spans acting, voice, theatre, rhythm, percussion, taiko drumming, and Human Design coaching. What looks like a diverse body of work is, in practice, a single investigation: what does it take for a human being to fully arrive in their body and express what is most true in them?

Chad works with singers, actors, athletes, and a wide range of people navigating anxiety, depression, neurological conditions, and serious illness — using movement, voice, and rhythm as a springboard for creative expression and embodiment. He holds a deep belief that human beings are living at a fraction of their potential, and that the body — when given the right conditions — already knows the way back.

Together with Kyra, he created something neither could have built alone — a practice that holds both the clinical and the creative, the biological and the essential.

"Emotions are not only essential information. When processed through the heart, they are a pathway to spirit — and that spirit can light up the soul."

About

KyraRoberton

Integrative Practitioner at The Health Lodge & Antidote Medica · Co-Creator, Neuro-Somatic Play

With twenty years’ experience as an integrative practitioner, Kyra Roberton practises at the meeting point of science and intuitive care. Her gift is psychoneuroimmunology — reading the nervous system in relation to the immune and endocrine systems, the body as one connected whole rather than separate parts. Her approach to the mind is informed by parts-based psychological frameworks such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) — the whole person leading, rather than any one part carrying the load alone.

From her clinic within The Health Lodge — Byron Bay’s award-winning integrative medical centre — she works alongside medical doctors and allied-health practitioners, and with integrative physicians internationally. Her heart is in cancer care: walking with people through diagnosis, treatment and the long terrain of survivorship, in evidence-informed care that works alongside, and in full respect of, their oncology team. It is this depth she brings to Neuro-Somatic Play.

Beyond the clinic, she supports The Health Lodge’s retreat programmes — including cancer and survivorship retreats — where success is measured through quantified tools such as the Medical Symptoms Questionnaire (MSQ), sleep studies, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), heart-rate variability (HRV), and functional testing, used for personalisation and pattern-tracking, not diagnosis. This is shaped through regular team meetings and round-table conversations with the wider practitioner group.

Her work in this space spans over a decade, across Veya, Ananda, Soma, and The Health Lodge, Byron Bay — with further reach across Mexico, from India to Australia.

On Science & Spirituality

“The journey through science and the journey through spirituality often begin the same way — with questions. At first we doubt what we cannot explain. Then experience humbles us. The deeper we go, the less interested we become in certainty and the more open we are to wonder. The final stage of spirituality isn’t leaving this world behind. It’s falling so deeply in love with being alive that your very laughter becomes someone else’s awakening.”

Who This Is For

For anyone whose body
is carrying more
than it can express.

Neuro-Somatic Play is for everyone — for the people who come to it for themselves, and for the practitioners, doctors, and therapists who carry it to others. It works alongside conventional care, not in place of it. People arrive through many doors — but the work beneath them is the same. It is for men and women. A diagnosis is not required.

For the ones holding the space

Retreat owners, facilitators, practitioners — you carry more than most, and more than you let on. You pour out, and are rarely poured back into. This is for you first: to be resourced, met, and returned to your own body — so you can take your people somewhere you have already been.

“Sound will be the medicine of the future.”

— often attributed to Edgar Cayce

And the oldest instrument is the one you were born with. In this work, the voice is medicine — sound is how the body finally says what it has been carrying.

For Retreat Centres & Facilitators

Bring this to your retreat.

In one line: a clinically-grounded, trauma-informed somatic experience that takes a group from braced and guarded to regulated, expressed, and bonded — held by our practitioners, for your guests and patients, and your team.

We travel to retreat centres, spas and integrative health spaces to deliver Neuro-Somatic Play on-site — and to restore and resource the practitioners who hold everyone else. Three ways to work together:

01 · On-site facilitation

We run the experience for your guests.

A full Neuro-Somatic Play session woven into your retreat — neurologically sequenced, trauma-informed, and held end to end by our team.

02 · Restore your team

We resource the people who hold the space.

Not a training day — a restorative space for the people who hold space for everyone else. Practitioner formation happens too, but the point is to leave your team resourced — as people first, professionals second — long after we have gone.

03 · Ongoing partnership

We build it into your programme.

A returning collaboration — seasonal retreats, repeat sessions, and a shared approach your centre can carry as its own.

No words. Wonderful. Feeling so grateful — let’s do more of this. Thank you Kyra for holding Chad’s brilliance so beautifully.

Reine DuboisClinical Director & Integrative Naturopath, The Health Lodge

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the beautiful session. I also realised that my grief is so light and manageable in a healthy way — which was a great perspective to be presented with. I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate you both.

BonnieNaturopath & Bio Resonance Practitioner

Thank you Kyra and Chad for a stunning Neuro-Somatic Play practitioner workshop. I joined on a whim and it was such a gift — wowee, we have so much wisdom and medicine inside of ourselves. Highly recommend for all health professionals.

From People We’ve Worked With

The Role of Play

We do not heal by trying harder.
We heal by learning to play again.

Play is the one state the body cannot fake. You cannot be braced for threat and at play in the same moment — so when play returns, it is proof the nervous system has found safety. This is why the work moves through movement, sound, rhythm, and games: not as decoration, but as the fastest route a body has to remember it is no longer in danger.

There is an old word for the distance the body keeps when it is braced, far from the light: desire — from the Latin desiderare, de sidere, ‘away from the stars.’ And play is how it finds its way back toward the light.

Most of us were taught that healing is serious work. But the body comes back to life the way it always has — through desire, curiosity, spontaneity, and delight. Play is not what happens once you are well. It is often how you become well.

Four integrated
layers of change.

01
Biology

Gut microbiome, nutritional foundations, HPA axis patterns — the biological soil that determines whether change can be sustained.

02
Nervous System

Targeted neurotransmitter training across GABA, oxytocin, endorphin, dopamine, and adrenalin. Building the neurological scaffolding that holds new experience.

03
Identity

Human Design as a precision map of authentic essence. Understanding the patterns that were never yours to carry — and what remains when they are released.

04
Essence

Somatic breathwork, movement, sound, and group co-regulation. The work that arrives when biology, neurology, and identity have been prepared to receive it.

Find your type.
Ask it across every layer.

Four ways people tend to move through the world — a playful mirror, not a diagnosis. Each type carries a question through biology, nervous system, identity, and essence. These are the first cards from the deck.

THE DRIVER
Pulled by momentum

Biology — runs hot; quick to act, slow to rest.

Nervous system — comes alive under momentum; stillness can feel like danger.

Identity — “What am I really moving toward?”

Essence — “What would I build if no one was watching?”

THE ANCHOR
Steadies the room

Biology — steady baseline; calm under pressure, drained by chaos.

Nervous system — regulates others before regulating itself.

Identity — “Whose safety am I carrying that isn’t mine to carry?”

Essence — “What do I need, to feel held myself?”

THE PERFORMER
Comes alive on stage

Biology — spikes and crashes; thrives on stakes.

Nervous system — activated by pressure, uneasy in ordinary moments.

Identity — “Who am I when no one is watching?”

Essence — “What is true, apart from what impresses?”

THE FEELER
Reads the room first

Biology — porous; absorbs others’ states easily.

Nervous system — quick to attune, slow to release what isn’t theirs.

Identity — “Whose feelings am I carrying as my own?”

Essence — “What do I feel, underneath what everyone else feels?”

Part of The Deck — a game we bring to the session.

Somatic Breathwork

The fastest path
to the nervous system.

Somatic breathwork is central to the work — not as a passive relaxation practice, but as a structured somatic tool. Breath is the fastest and most direct access point to the autonomic nervous system. Specific breath patterns signal safety or threat at a level beneath conscious thought.

These patterns change vagal tone. They expand the window of tolerance — the physiological range within which a person can be fully present, fully feeling, and fully themselves without the nervous system reading it as danger.

There is a physiology to this. Breathing patterns that deliberately shift the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide change the chemistry of the blood and brain — measurable shifts now studied alongside those seen in psychedelic-assisted research. In that altered state, the analysing mind quiets, and an inner situation can, sometimes, be met more clearly than effortful thinking alone could reach it.

Breath is not the only door. In Kyra’s hands, touch becomes an art of its own — a way of meeting the body exactly where it has been holding, beneath the reach of words. What breath opens from within, touch meets from without; both speak to the nervous system in the only dialect it fully trusts: sensation.

“Fascia does not store trauma as if it were a locked drawer. It participates in it — continuously, dynamically, intelligently. The body has been listening to you this whole time.”

There is nothing buried waiting to be extracted. There is only a nervous system that needs different conditions to reorganise itself.

Watch

The work, in motion.

How Neuro-Somatic Play came to be — Chad and Kyra in their own words — somatic breathwork in motion, and Medicine Breath International.

Neurotransmitter Training

Eight systems.
One architecture.

Each session works across all eight major systems — not sequentially, but as an integrated whole, building the neurological scaffolding that can hold new experience. The work moves through the body’s yin and yang — its natural ascending and descending pathways — so the system learns both to rise and to settle. Once that scaffolding holds, it is tested — the system met with different emotional energies, learning to stay present and regulated while it fully feels.

GABA
Calm & Ground

The foundation. Calming the threat-detection system so that the deeper work can begin without the nervous system reading it as danger.

Serotonin
Meaning & Settle

The gut-brain axis brought into awareness. Rhythmic movement, stillness, and presence that allow the body to arrive at a felt sense of meaning, contentment, and enough.

Oxytocin
Safety & Bond

Activated through touch, eye contact, and group witnessing. The neurochemical of belonging — essential for trust and co-regulation.

Endorphin
Release & Relief

Released through breathwork and laughter. Creating the natural conditions for joy, relief, and full-body release.

Dopamine
Reward & Presence

Stimulated through noticing what is not activated — scanning for ease rather than tension. Restoring the capacity to feel rewarded by being alive.

Adrenalin
Complete & Resolve

The biological fear cycle, completed. Movement, sound, and deliberate gesture that allows the body to finish what it started — and return to rest.

Cortisol
Mobilise & Recover

The morning rise that readies us to meet the day. Restored to its natural rhythm — ascending cleanly, then descending into rest — so the body can mobilise when it must and genuinely recover when it need not.

Testosterone
Drive & Vitality

The current of vitality, drive, and the will to act. Restored through grounded strength and embodied movement — the felt right to take up space, to assert, and to meet life with one’s whole force.

During the session

Held, not pushed.

Sessions run 3–4 hours in groups of 6–12. You will move through nervous-system training exercises, somatic breathwork, identity and essence work, and group co-regulation. Humour is part of the practice. Nervousness is welcome. You are guided every step of the way — nothing is asked of your body before it feels safe enough to offer it.

After your session

The work continues.

The session ignites. The follow-up sustains. You will receive a personalised naturopathic plan — neurotransmitter support, gut recommendations, nervous system home practice, and a Human Design Sun gate embodiment practice. Many participants report that the most significant shifts arrive the morning after — the nervous system integrating overnight what the session put in motion.

A Note From the Founders

A note to the people
holding the space.

To the spa managers, clinical directors, and retreat hosts —

We built this work inside a working clinic, beside practitioners giving everything they have to the people in their care. We know what it takes to hold that space, day after day — and how rarely the practitioners themselves are the ones being held.

That is the work we most want to do now: to come to you — to bring Neuro-Somatic Play to your guests, and to restore and resource your team, as clinicians and as people, leaving your centre with something it can carry long after we have gone.

Our hope is to travel to retreat centres and integrative health spaces around the world, supporting the practitioners who support everyone else. If that is something you have been looking for, we would love to begin a conversation.

With warmth,
